The Way of the Tortoise

Behold the turtle.
He makes progress only
when he sticks his neck out.

– James B. Conant (1893-1978)

SBI! eliminates the barriers. It frees you to focus on building your business. But it does not repeal a fundamental law of economics (the law that "Get Rich Quick" marketers want you to forget)...

It takes time, work and persistence to build a genuine, profitable, long-term business with equity.

Did you know?

Warren Buffett made 99.7% of his billions after the age of 52. His partner said of the most successful, long-term investors in history...

We're the tortoise that has outrun the hare because it chose the easy predictions.
- Charlie Munger

It takes "the way of the tortoise" (our SBI! mascot)...

  • a persistent and sure approach, fueled by passion and steadied by patience
  • the confidence of following a process C T P M that makes sense
  • all the tools needed (all in one spot) to execute the process
  • the knowledge that this combination of process-and-tools is proven to work.

C T P M is a ground-level approach that has worked for 20 years. It will work for decades more because the primal dynamics (of human wants and needs) never change, even as the Internet advances in so many ways.

Tortoises can tell you more about the road than hares.
- Khalil Gibran

YouTubers make for great stories in the press, but few hares make that leap successfully (the media love rarity). Ditto for Instagram influencers, Tik Tok tick-tockers and so forth - hot flashes of success, but one-in-a-million success.

Or consider easy-to-make websites like Wix. Sharp sites, but little traffic (SBI! success rate is more than 100x higher). That’s why SBI’s mascot and mentor, Shelly, is fond of this quote....

How you start is important, but it it how you finish that counts. In the race for success, the sticker outlasts the sprinter. The victor in the race is the one who leads at the finish.
- B. C. Forbes (edited for conciseness)

Slow and steady
wins the race.
- Aesop

Shelly the SBI! Tortoise represents "every(wo)man," a light-hearted embodiment of the SBIer. This is a tortoise with attitude... a positive attitude. The eyes are bright... optimistic and confident. But not over-confident. See those little wrinkles below the eyes? This is one hard-working, motivated, late-night shellback.

S/he symbolizes the opposite of the "Get Rich Quick" hare-brained schemes ("GRQ hares") that inevitably fail. Tricks do not work in business-building.

That does not mean this tortoise is slow though. Note the sneakers. The sure-steady-persistent step-by-step SBI! approach outruns the GRQ hare.

We live in a culture full of hares; but the tortoise always wins.

Dave Ramsey

“I am successful because I have always been a tortoise. I did not come from a rich family. I was not smart in school. I did not finish school. I am not particularly talented. Yet, I am far richer than most people simply because I did not stop.

Robert Kiyosaki

Not stopping, aka “perseverance,” is a tortoise lifeskill. Loving what you do makes it an easy skill to master. SBI!’s brainstorming tools empower you to find your passion, a profitable one.

The biggest mistake people make in life is NOT
making a living at doing what they most enjoy.

Malcolm S. Forbes (1919-1990)

We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life.
All that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.

Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

The Final Word

So what makes SBIers so effective? A process that works, a philosophy of “slow and steady” that wins on a proven path and your willingness to do it ‘til you’re there.

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933)

Are You Persistent?

Becoming persistent starts with the simple step of taking action.

Nothing happens until
something moves.

Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

The most effective way
to do it is to do it.

Amelia Earhart (1897-1939)

SBIers catch fire during the early steps when you find your most profitable niche, one that excites you!

Thats when persistence is born (even if you have never been particularly stick-with-it).

And from there...

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.
